EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Eli Manning isnt giving up on the season even though the New York Giants playoffs chances are just about shot.Coming off a sixth straight loss that left the Giants with a 3-8 record with five games to play, Manning on Monday said its time for the team to start doing things right. Its time for the Giants to win a game.New York, which can no longer win the NFC East after Sunday nights 31-28 loss to the Cowboys, will get a break over the final five weeks with games against Jacksonville (1-10), Tennessee (2-9), Washington (3-8), St. Louis (4-7) and Philadelphia (8-3).All eight of the Giants losses have been to teams that currently have at least seven wins.I think everybody wants to win, Manning said. Everybody wants to get that feeling back. I have seen that these last few weeks, we havent got discouraged. It is frustrating. Everybody is disappointed today that we didnt get that win. We didnt make every play we needed to get that win and left some plays out there on the field. I think guys understand every game is important, everything you are doing is important.Manning said the Giants arent playing for next season despite the prospect that they are going to miss the playoffs for the third straight season.Right now we are playing for this year, playing for right now, the two-time Super Bowl MVP said. That is the mindset. I think you just have to understand that it is not too late to get on a hot streak and feel good about what we are doing.Giants coach Tom Coughlin said his sole focus is playing the Jaguars on Sunday. The goal is to win, to win a game, Coughlin said. Thats what weve been talking about for quite some time. The Giants had chances to win the past two weekends against San Francisco (7-4) and Dallas (8-3). Five turnovers against the Niners led to a 16-10 loss, and the failure of the defence to stop Tony Romo and the Cowboys after the Giants took a 28-24 lead with 3:00 to play cost them on Sunday night.Manning said the Giants werent very good in 2006 and finished with an 8-8 record. The next year they won the Super Bowl without making many changes in personnel.Being with the same crew for a year, two years, or three years, it is going to make you stronger and more comfortable, Manning said. We had some new guys on this squad and hopefully we will be able to stick together for a few more years and make something special. I think it can start right now. It can start at this time. I think we have made some improvement, we are doing some better things, but it is not too late to get on a hot streak, and get things rolling right now.Veteran defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka isnt interested in the Giants record. It is not about getting to a certain number, Kiwanuka said. It is not about changing or doing anything out of the ordinary. It is about playing hard and just getting wins.NOTES: Coughlin said LG Adam Snyder should be OK after sustaining a knee injury. He replaced rookie Weston Richburg in the starting lineup Sunday. ...While it wasnt perfect, Coughlin said RT Geoff Schwartz played OK in making his Giants debut. He missed the first 10 games with a foot injury.___Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLReplica Shoes . If I am on the field, there is no hesitation and wondering what if — I am picking up where I left off. After a slow start, Jennings ran for 176 yards in a win over Houston and followed that with 55-yard performances in victories over Washington and Atlanta.During the winning streak, Jennings averaged a little more than 5 yards, and New York looked like it would be a contender for a playoff spot for the first time in three seasons. With him out of the lineup, the offence sputtered, the defence was on the field too long and New York was blown out in four straight games. The playoff hopes are dim.Rookie Andre Williams started those games and carried 60 times for 165 yards, a 2.8 yard average. You cant do it by yourself, Jennings warned. Like I said before, if you ever see the run game being positive, its simply because the offensive line and quarterback are putting us in the right play and the receivers and tight ends are blocking downfield. If you dont see it moving forward, I think its because of us in the backfield.Coughlin believes having Jennings in the lineup will give the Giants a much-needed lift.dddddddddddd. He is a tough runner, who knows how to read defences and pick his spots to get those ugly hidden yards to move the chains.Having Rashad back will definitely be helpful, quarterback Eli Manning said. Andres done a great job at running back but having that one-two punch is going to be a good combination. He was playing well for us before he got injured, (he) does a lot of things in the pass game and in the run game.Rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr. also is excited about playing with a running game. He has had consecutive 100-yard games receiving and says his job will be easier if defensive backs have to worry about a runner getting to the second level.Any time you have a running game that can open up the passing game, Beckham said. At the same time, we have to do better in the passing game and maybe that will open up the running game. The line also has to help. Williams did not have many big holes over the past month. We have to be more physical up front and go out there and make room for the running backs, tackle Justin Pugh said.NOTES: LB Jacquian Williams and RB Peyton Hillis are still bothered by concussions and did not practice along with DT Cullen Jenkins (calf) and DE Damontre Moore (shoulder). ...Spencer Paysinger would proably fill in for Williams on the weakside spot except in passing situations. ....P Steve Weatherford and CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie were not on the pre-practice injury record for the first time in more than a month. ...G Geoff Schwartz is going to get more work this week and may make his Giants debut Sunday. The team has until Monday to decide whether to take him off recallable injured reserve. ' ' '
