TORONTO -- Tyler Bigg scored 10 seconds into the first period and Jerry DAmigo added another near the midway mark as the Toronto Marlies edged the streaking San Antonio Rampage 2-1 in American Hockey League action. Entering Saturday, the Rampage had won six straight and earned points in 16 of 17 games while spending the entire month of February on the road due to the Stock and Show Rodeo taking over the AT&T Center in San Antonio. "Statistically, what theyve been able to do on the road since theyve had an event in their building, theyve been fantastic," said Marlies coach Steve Spott. "We knew they were going to be hot. We knew we had to be good defensively today and we were." Bobby Butler had the lone goal for the Rampage at 15:04 of the third. The Marlies (30-17-4) improved to 4-2-0 on their current 10-game home stand, which continues Sunday against the Oklahoma City Barons, and swept the four-game season series with the Rampage (23-22-8). Drew MacIntyre made 22 saves for his league-leading 23rd win of the season. Biggs scored 10 seconds in to the first period, jamming home a loose puck off a scrum in front of Rampage starter Michael Houser for his sixth of the season. "I think its a good story, when you look at the (Jerred) Smithson, Biggs and (Mike) Duco line, youre going head-to-head against Drew Shore, a very good player in this league and the National Hockey League," Spott said. "To get that early goal, especially from our checking line, I thought that was the bonus goal we were looking for and we were able to hold on for 60 minutes." DAmigo gave the Marlies a 2-0 lead at 10:24 of the opening period, beating Houser glove side for his 14th of the campaign. DAmigo, who was checked on the play and went into the boards heavily, came up favouring his left hand and went directly to the Marlies dressing room, but later returned. "(Spencer) Abbott seems to be finding me on those little breakaways there and Im just skating right into it," said DAmigo, who had his left hand wrapped in ice post-game. "Trying to just get the puck on net someway, somehow and I saw the glove open up and put it in." San Antonio defenceman Alex Petrovic was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for slashing on the play. "He hacked me down and you cant really stop yourself so you try to put your hands up to stop yourself and obviously it didnt work," added DAmigo of the play. Houser, who allowed two goals on nine shots, was replaced by Jacob Markstrom. He finished with 23 saves. Note: The Toronto Maple Leafs assigned forward Peter Holland to the Marlies on Saturday. Spott said Holland would centre the teams top line Sunday. Marlies forward Sam Carrick (upper body) is expected to miss another 7 to 10 days, but is practicing with contact NHL Jerseys Outlet . With Costa risking a retrospective ban, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho defended his striker and blamed the media. What you call stamps and Sky (television) calls crimes, I have to say absolutely (were) accidental, Mourinho told reporters.By denying Brendan Rodgers a first final as Liverpool manager, Mourinho can now prepare for the first since returning to Chelsea in 2013.Chelsea, which won the competition in 2005 and 2007 under Mourinho, will discover its opponent for the March 1 final at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday. Tottenham leads Sheffield United 1-0 heading to Bramall Lane.If there was any doubting the significance of Englands second-tier knockout competition it came with the teamsheet. Unlike on Saturday when a weakened Chelsea was humiliated 4-2 here by third-tier Bradford, Mourinho was taking this trophy more seriously.Chelsea was back at full strength, with top-scorer Costa restored to the line-up. The Spain striker made his mark early on, by leaving a mark on Cans right ankle. The stamp came in front of the benches and fourth official Phil Dowd, but Costa avoided even a yellow card.He could easily hurdle over the young player and he directs his studs right on to his ankle, which couldve been nasty, Rodgers said.Costa was the aggrieved player in the 22nd miinute when he was tripped by Skrtel and referee Michael Oliver dismissed the penalty appeal.ddddddddddddIts so clear, so clear, and that is difficult to accept, said Mourinho, who raged at the time on the touchline as the game became increasingly fiery. It was Mourinhos goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, who preserved parity. The sprawling Belgian saved from Alberto Moreno and used his outstretched left leg to deny Philippe Coutinho.Liverpool was exhibiting the attacking verve that was the hallmark of last seasons run to second in the Premier League, but had been lacking in the opening months of this season. The visitors, however, could find no way past Courtois. The second half witnessed another flare-up involving Costa, which Oliver seemed to miss. After Skrtels sliding tackle, Costa stepped on the defenders left boot.Theres no need to do it. Thats the sad thing of it, Rodgers said. Hes a top-class player and hes clever enough that the officials dont see it.Costa then used his boot for shooting not stamping, but a scrappy shot was blocked by goalkeeper Simon Mignolets left leg.Mignolet, who was dropped in December before regaining his place after Brad Jones was injured, then tackled Costa as the striker tried to round him.In the search for a winner, Rodgers brought on misfiring striker Mario Balotelli for Lazar Markovic. But the Italians main contribution was allowing Ivanovic to evade him to head in the winner. Away goals only count after 120 minutes, but Ivanovics third goal of the season ensured Chelsea is back in the League Cup final after a six-year absence. There was time for one last flare-up, though. Both Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Costa were booked after tangling. For Gerrard, defeat reduces his chances of ending his Liverpool career in May with a trophy. For us to be successful, its got to hurt at times as well, Rodgers said. ' ' '
