TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie tweeted on Monday that Hemsky will be going to market as an unrestricted free agent on July 1. According to McKenzie, Hemsky rejected a three-year, $10 million contract offer and the Senators are now prepared to trade his free agent rights for a draft pick. Hemsky was acquired by the Senators at the trade deadline after spending the first 11 seasons of his career with the Edmonton Oilers. In 75 games with the Oilers and Senators in 2013-14, Hemsky scored 13 goals and added 30 assists. Hes coming off a two-year contract that paid him an annual average of $5 million. The 30-year-old forward has 146 goals and 348 assists for 494 points over 672 career games in the NHL.
